Brown & Connery is general counsel to a major regional medical center. Due to the wide variety of issues facing today's health care industry, the firm's health care practice group draws upon the collective experience of the firm's lawyers in a host of areas including litigation, labor and employment law, tax, and real estate. In addition, the firm performs the following services for its health care clients: general corporate work, including all types of contract negotiation and drafting; preparation, amendment and interpretation of corporate and medical staff by-laws; equipment leasing; project and medical office building construction; formation of joint ventures; resolution of medical staff privileges issues; real estate matters; compliance work; health care financing; risk assessment; and insurance matters. Brown & Connery also provides advice on numerous issues pertaining to the rights and care of patients, and the exposure of health care organizations and providers in the area of informed consent. The firm has considerable experience in developing internal policies, procedures and guidelines for health care providers in areas including termination of life support systems, advance directives and powers of attorney, the physician-patient relationship, access to medical records, consent forms for general admission and medical procedures, and refusal of medical treatment.
